Museum/heritage guidebooks
Amanda is an accomplished writer. Most recently she has written guidebooks for two Anglican churches – St Peter Mancroft, Norwich, and St Peter’s Church, Chartham, Kent. Both guidebooks trace each church’s history, from early foundations to the present day.
From 2015 to 2019, Amanda was commissioned by the Churches Conservation Trust (CCT) and Jarrold Publishing to write the text for six new guidebooks for the following CCT keynote churches:
- St Mary's, Shrewsbury
- St Lawrence's, Evesham
- St John on the Wall, Bristol
- All Saints, Cambridge
- Holy Trinity Goodramgate, York
- St Peter's, Sandwich, Kent.
The CCT is a national charity that protects and cares for 350 churches, repairing and conserving them and opening them up to visitors.
“Thank you very much for ... the guidebook text, which we have all thoroughly enjoyed reading. We like the tone and style you have set. We feel it responds brilliantly to our brief and we all found things in it that we didn't know about Mancroft and enjoyed the stories you had drawn out.
Thanks for all your wonderful work on this, we really appreciate it.”

“We really like your style of writing and particularly the way in which you have set the church's history against the social and political situation of the various time periods. We think you have done a great job and we really look forward to the finished article. This will prove to a be a very interesting and readable guidebook and history about St Mary's.”
